The NATO Submarine Rescue System (NSRS) recently was deployed by air operations for the first time as part of a major exercise in Norway. The NSRS is designed to be deployed at a moment's notice anywhere a submarine and its crew are in trouble. The £47 million ($75 million) system was loaded onto two Boeing C-17 Globemasters and three Antonov 124 aircraft before taking off for Bergen to participate in exercise Golden Arrow. The system is owned jointly by the U.K., French and Norwegian navies.
