Prague Castle Hosts Security Conference and Medal of Merit Presentation

In November, The DAP Hotel Prague hosted the second SCADA [supervisory control and data acquisition]/ICS [industrial control systems] Security Conference as part of the Future Forces Forum project. The conference was attended by more than 150 participants from seven countries. A total of 44 speakers and panelists from six countries and 111 guests from five countries attended the two-day conference. The conference was complemented by a series of talks, such as: A roundtable discussion on People Protection by Using Modern SCADA/ICS Systems and Research & Development in Cybersecurity, which was attended by the representatives of the Ministry of Interior, Fire Rescue Service, and academic and industrial organizations under the auspices of AFCEA. The conference partners were given the opportunity to exhibit products and solutions and present a concrete answer to the impact of cyber threats, as well as the procedures to face and prevent such threats. An example is the presentation by Tobias Schroedel and Jiri Gogela, who demonstrated the impact of these threats and possible risks in information technology and operational technology. Other participants included legal experts involved in the debate that are not only responsible for damage caused by cyber attacks but also for the protection of personal data and the safety of industrial control systems. This conference benefited many stakeholders from state institutions, industry, science and research. Also in November, during a chapter meeting at the castle, Petr Jirasek, regional vice president, Central Eastern Europe, presented the AFCEA International Medal of Merit and Regional Vice President Coin for outstanding service to Maj. Gen. Jan Kase, chief of staff of the Military Office of the President of the Czech Republic. Gen. Kase has supported AFCEA and its activities for almost a decade as chapter honorary vice president. He is the former commander of the Czech Signal Corps and security director of the Ministry of Defence.
