Online Tutors for C++/Java Programming

摘要

We have developed web-based tutors to help students learn C++/Java programming concepts by solving problems. The tutors generate problems, grade student's answer, explain the correct answer step-by-step and record student scores. Problem Generation: (ⅰ) The tutors generate problems as randomized instances of parameterized templates. Therefore, they seldom generate the same problem twice. This helps prevent plagiarism/cheating when the tutors are used for testing/ assignments. Each tutor contains a repository of over 200 problem templates. Instructors will be able to add their own problem templates to the tutors. (ⅱ) The tutors adapt to the needs of the learner, i.e., they generate problems for only those topics that the learner has not yet mastered. This minimizes the learning time and better engages the interest of the student.
