Input wanted: What's next for Shore & Beach?

Happy fall. It has been a challenging summer in the west with too little rain and too many fires. Earlier in the summer there were signs that a large El Nino might be building in the Pacific and many people began hoping for the higher than normal rains that often accompany strong El Nino systems. Researchers began to get into position to do storm studies. The most recent news is that the system is weakening; but, even if there were to be a strong El Nino signal, only time will tell whether or not the coming winter will be stormy. The coast is a system of aquatic extremes - too little water, too much water. One of the research interests in an El Nino winter is that, on the western U.S. coast, the storm conditions are thought to be an indication of "normal" storm conditions with rising water level and by studying the dynamics of coastal change during El Ninos, we can get a glimpse into future conditions.
