No less than 29 warships were opened to the public in Stockholm on 25th September when the Swedish Navy held a Navy Day after completing a 10-day exercise in the Baltic. They comprised examples of most classes currently in service with the Swedish Navy and the Finnish and German navies were also represented. The Swedish Navy usually tends to keep a rather low profile, its ships seldom being seen outside Scandinavian waters, but it is one of the largest navies in the region. The majority of its ships are relatively small, as might be expected when one considers that they are primarily designed for operations in Swedish coastal waters and in the Baltic. Virtually all are camouflaged to enable them to conceal themselves amongst the islands when operating in the Stockholm archipelago and similar areas.
