The manufacture of industrial chemicals is a major business in the European economy. Production plants are concentrated at the main seaports, including Antwerp, Fos/Marseille, Grangemouth, Hamburg, Mestre, Rotterdam, the Tees and the Thames, and short-sea shipping plays an important role, linking the plants with a network of regular services.
