OceanBreeze to Nassau

As more vintage liners head to the beaches of Alang, Peter Knego celebrates OceanBreeze, a ship which continues to succeed despite the domination of balconied mega-ships in today's cruise market. Imperial Majesty Cruise Line's OceanBreeze was sold out eight months in advance when fellow ship journalist Martin Cox and I booked 'standby' for her Friday 2 March 2001 departure. Thankfully, we cleared the wait list just days before, enabling us to sample a two-night voyage to Nassau from Fort Lauderdale on this historic ship. OceanBreeze was built for Shaw Savill Line as Southern Cross at the Harland & Wolff Shipyard in Belfast. Although some earlier ships sported the 'engines aft' design, she was the first major international passenger liner to do so.
