USS Wasp transports Ospreys

The US Navy's USS Wasp (LHD 1) was engaged to ferry ten Tiltrotor MV-22B Osprey aircraft on their first combat deployment to Iraq in early October after the ship completed an aid mission to Nicaragua in support of Hurricane Felix victims. The Ospreys will be used to ferry Marines as well as cargo throughout Iraq's troubled Anbar province. The 40,532 ton displacement Wasp, the lead ship of her class, was commissioned in 1989 after completion by the Ingalls Shipbuilding yard at Pascagoula, Mississippi.
