While many container vessels have been laid up because of the recession, Mediterranean Shipping Company announced that they had actually expanded their fleet while having no vessels in lay-up. The MSC fleet had grown up to 12 per cent since the start of 2009, even though they had scrapped over 20 ships so far during the year.rnOrders for new ships had been placed before the recession, and the company had 12 ships delivered in 2009, of between 11,000TEU and 14.000TEU. MSC has plans to reshape its fleet for the future.
