August's mystery ship isrnthe motor vessel Salaga, one of Elder Dempster Line's'S' class. Built by Hawthorne Leslie & Co Ltd, Newcastle, she was registered in Liverpool and was launched on the 18 June 1947. She made her maiden voyage to West Africa that December. Her principal particulars were 4,820grt, length 408ft, beam 57ft 2in, and draft 22ft 3in. Salaga remained on ElderrnDempster's main routes until March 1965, when she was transferred to the recently acquired Guineau Gulf Line and renamed Mamfe. Sold out to the Ocean Group in February 1968 to SingaporernShipping for £115,000 and renamed Lucky Trader, she was registered in Singapore. In March 1973 she was sold for demolition to China National Machinery Import/Export Co at Hsinkiang but was reprieved and sailed on in Chinese ownership.
