Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) has become an energy source in great demand around the world and ships built to transport it have been getting progressively bigger. At the end of last year the largest LNG carrier built to date, the 345.3m (1,130ft) by 53.8m (177ft)rnMozah, entered service following her completion by South Korea's Samsung Heavy Industries.rnWith a deadweight of 125,700 at a design draft of 12m, Mozah has a capacity of 266,000m3 of LNG and is the lead ship in a series of 14 Q-Max tankers being built by Samsung and Daewoo Shipbuilding for the Qatar Gas Transport Company.rnMozah and her sisters are propelled by two slow-speed diesel engines, rather than steam turbines which have traditionally powered LNG carriers because of the availability of 'boil-off gas. However, the Q-Max vessels have an onboard re-liquefaction system to reliquefy the LNG and return it to the cargo tanks.
