I did not want to sit behind a desk in an office all my life. What was more of a coincidence was why I ended up in the RFA, because when I joined I had never heard of them! In fact, I used the RFA as a third option between the RN and P&O Cruises. At 17 I thought being a passenger ship officer with P&O might be a bit of fun and I was too young to join the RN. The RFA mischievously called me down for an interview a couple of weeks before any other interviews, offered me the job and here I am thirty years later.rnI trained at Plymouth Maritime College. They thought that the further they sent you from home, the more work you were likely to do.
