The 87,000gt Nieuw rnAmsterdam, due to become Holland America Line's largest ship when delivered in June, was floated out of her building bay at Fincantieri's Marghera shipyard in late October following a coin ceremony presided over by Alice Tinorua, wife of Pieter Rijkaart, director of newbuildings at HAL.rnLike her slightly smaller sister Eurodam, delivered in 2008, Nieuw Amsterdam will be powered by six MaK M-43-C engines with a combined output of 64,000kW driving AC generators. These will deliverrnthe energy needed for onboard facilities, auxiliary systems and the ship's Azipod propulsion system, which is expected to give a top speed of 24 knots and a service speed of 22 knots.
