Helicopters damage historic ferry

Restoration of the last surviving near-original Sydney-built Manly ferry received a setback on 1 December 2010, when the ship was damaged by Australian military helicopters. Five Black Hawk helicopters were taking part in an exercise when they hovered 10m above the vessel on her berth at the old coal loader at Waverton. Protective plastic deck covering and wheelhouse panels were blown off by the downdraught, some of the panels and a carley float being lost, while the ferry's roof and a tender were damaged.
