The 81m Russian-flagged general cargo vessel Kelarvi (1995), which carries mainly timber cargoes from Russia to various UK ports and is a regular caller at timber wharves in Britain, collided with the pleasure craft Rossi on the morning of 1 August. The 2,300dwt vessel was on the Neva river in St Petersburg on one of her regular voyages when she collided with the smaller craft, which had 13 passengers and two crew on board. The collision resulted in the pleasure boat sustaining a gash to its hull causing, it to sink.
