Glacier scrapped

Marad, the US Maritime Administration, ordered ESCO to commence scrapping Glacier on 2 July, finally ending hopes that the historic icebreaker could be saved for preservation. Glacier was built in 1955, and during her career with the US Navy and US Coast Guard made 29 trips to the Antarctic and ten to the Arctic, sailing more than 944,000 miles.
