DFDS/LD poised for Calais

Within hours of the Commercial Court of Paris confirming liquidation of SeaFrance on 9 January, plans for a two-ship Calais-Dover service were announced by DFDS Seaways and LD Lines' parent Louis Dreyfus Armateurs. SeaFrance's four-ship fleet had been idle since mid-November 2011 and separate bids for the SNCF French Railways-owned company, from DFDS/ LD Lines and seafarers' union-backed staff co-operative SCOP, were rejected. In a statement from Copenhagen, DFDS said: 'Our intention is to operate two ships under the French flag to be manned by French seafarers.
