Vroon of The Netherlands has taken delivery of the 134.8m by 19.6m Gelbray Express from China's Cosco Guangdong Shipyard as the third of six 'next generation' livestock carriers it is acquiring for operation by subsidiary Livestock Express BV. The remaining three vessels will be delivered before the middle of next year. All are powered by 6,090kW Wartsila main engines giving a loaded service speed of 16.75 knots, and each has a cargo capacity of approximately 4,500m~2. In addition, they are fitted with animal welfare facilities exceeding Australian (AMSA) regulations and incorporate a revolutionary bow design to ensure maximum comfort for cargo and crew as well as providing considerable fuel savings. Gelbray Express has since commenced a medium-term charter with Landmark Global Exports.
