After numerous delays due to tug issues and bad weather, all four of the Type 22 frigates decommissioned in the last round of defence cuts have departed Portsmouth for scrapping. The exodus had been scheduled to begin with the former HMS Cornwall being moved to Swansea. However, the tug Hibernia sent to perform the tow was detained by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency after being declared 'dangerously unsafe' following a spot check.
