Building ships (and boats) in Britain

I recently had the privilege of attending the formal opening of the new All-Weather Lifeboat Centre in Poole, where the Royal National Lifeboat Institution's new lifeboats are to be constructed during the next decade. By bringing lifeboat construction in-house, the charity will save money and ensure the boats are built on time and to the right standard, with 90 jobs being created and boatbuilding skills being developed. The RNLI are to be commended for making such a huge investment in a new boatbuilding centre, albeit a very specialist one.
