Fast craft for Nigeria

South Africa's Veecraft Marine has been contracted to build two Incat Crowther-designed, aluminium-hulled oilfield security vessels for Nigeria's UTM Dredging Ltd. The 35m by 7m vessels will be powered by three Caterpillar C32 ACERT engines, each producing 1450hp at 2,300rpm, to give the vessels a maximum speed of 29 knots. Electrical power is derived from two Caterpillar C4.4 generators. Accommodation will be provided for eight crew as well as 14 security personnel, and the wheelhouse will be constructed of Armox 500T steel, with bullet-proof windows. External decks will provide space for the transportation of supplies as well as positions for weapons, while the aft portion of the hull will be fitted with a well incorporating a hydraulically-operated, articulating transom door for the deployment of an 8m fast rescue craft.
