Seen recently at the Italian port of Livorno was the former Canadian Coast Guard buoy tender CCCS Simon Fraser, built by Burrard Dry Dock at Vancouver, British Columbia in 1960 and modernised by the Versatile Marine yard at Montreal, Quebec in 1986. The 1,353gt tender was decommissioned in 2000, following a transit of the Northwest Passage made as part of a Millennium project, after which Italian buyers purchased her for conversion. However, this project stalled, with the partly converted hull still standing on blocks near Livomo's old Luigi Orlando shipyard after more than a decade.
