In their day they made economic sense, but the era of such combination carriers as OOs, OBOs and PROBOs appears to be coming to an end as one of the world's last operators of such tonnage, Norway's SKS Tankers, begins to sell off its fleet. Over the past year the Scandinavian company has sold two of its remaining OBOs (oil-bulk-ore), the 1996-built twins SKS Tana and SKS Tyne, to Turkey's Karadeniz Energy Group for conversion into floating power plants. This leaves SKS with eight such ships, while reducing the world's fleet of OBOs to just 18 units.
