During the winter the issue of pollution in London and other cities round the world made the news headlines, with images of smog making good footage for TV news broadcasts. The issues of pollution and climate change, and their impact on the world, have been on the agenda for many years as planners and designers come up with ways to combat it. Every sector of transportation is making efforts to design and build cleaner vehicles, with the emphasis on reducing emissions, and the shipping industry is no exception, as is explained in detail on pages 18 and 19.
