HALF A CENTURY OF ALASKAN CRUISING

In 1969 Princess Cruises, using the chartered cruise ship Italia, undertook its first summer season cruising to Alaska, and in 2019 marked 50 years of Alaskan cruising. P&O sent Arcadia to Alaska the following year, and in 1973 Princess Cruises returned Italia to its owner and chartered Island Venture from Fearnley and Eger, renaming her Island Princess to continue Alaskan cruising. In the same year P&O sent the brand-new cruise ship Spirit of London to Alaska as the area began to increase in popularity as a viable cruise destination.
