A HYBRID POWER FIRST

Waertsilae has furthered battery technology development with the installation of a hybrid energy system on board Viking Princess (pictured). The Norwegian vessel became the first offshore supply vessel on which batteries reduce the number of generators on board. The system will improve engine efficiency, save fuel and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Viking Princess completed sea trials and the system was handed over to Eidesvik Offshore on 9 October 2017. Viking Princess operates on a combination of a battery pack for energy storage and three LNG-fuelled Wartsila engines.
