ACCIDENTS CAN HAPPEN

As this issue of Ships Monthly was being prepared, news came of an accident involving Red Funnel's passenger and vehicle ferry Red Falcon colliding with a yacht in Cowes harbour. Red Falcon, which was carrying 56 people, including 40 passengers from Southampton, had been trying to berth at the entrance of Cowes Harbour in thick fog when she made contact with a number of yachts and subsequently went aground. The Red Falcon grounding was not the only accident at sea to occur recently. In early October the Tunisian ferry Ulysse hit an anchored container ship (see page 7). The cause of the collision has not been determined, but the incident occurred in fine weather and was rather more serious.
