Man's 51/60df Passes Landmark Test

In what constitutes the final step towards its first application in the merchant shipping sector, the first production versions of MAN Diesel's type 51/60DF four-stroke, medium speed dual-fuel gas engine have completed factory acceptance tests. Carried out at MAN's Augsburg works, the success of the Bureau Veritas-super-vised tests means that the 51/60DF engines can now be delivered for installation in the four membrane-type LNG carriers under construction at Korea's STX Shipbuilding for Spanish shipowner Elcano. The order for these 174 000m~3 capacity behemoths was placed by Stream, a joint venture between two Spain's Repsol YPF and Gas Natural. The first vessel is scheduled for delivery from STX's Jinhae facility in the first half of 2010.
