Shi Delivers Its Biggest Gl-classed Vessel

Samsung Heavy Industries' shipyard in Geoje, South Korea, has delivered its largest vessel built to Germanischer Lloyd class. The 13 800TEU-capacity MSC Daniela meets SOLAS requirements for bridge visibility with a design that features the separation of deckhouse and engine room. The arrangement of the deckhouse in the forward part of the ship permits an increase in container capacity and a reduction in ballast water. In addition, fuel tanks are protected, since they are located in the protected area below the deckhouse. Also, reduced bending as well as increased stiffness of the hull had been realised in the design. The use of high tensile steel was a prerequisite for building the mega-boxer. Its use allowed for a reduction in plate thickness.
