All in all, it can be stated that the bigger the tanker, the harder the pressure. At the start of 2013, we noticed overcapacities especially in the oil tanker segment. According to Clarkson Research Services Limited (CRSL), the total tanker fleet capacity continued its steady growth with a 3.5 per cent increase in 2012. Tanker demolitions reached only 12.4 million dwt in 2012 - less than expected - and about 33 million dwt were reported as fleet additions. 2012 was another year of low ordering with 16 million dwt, far below the rate of deliveries. The total tanker order book shrunk to 68 million dwt at the beginning of 2013, the lowest level since ten years. The ratio of deadweight tonnage under construction to the trading tanker fleet fell from 17.2 per cent to 12.3 per cent.
