摘要

The automatic generation of a range of flat-sided hull forms which satisfy constraints on various primary and secondary geometric parameters is considered. The curved section of each hull surface is generated using the Partial Differential Equation (PDE) method forming surfaces as solutions to a partial differential equation with appropriate boundary conditions. The method enables a wide range of smooth surface shapes to be represented using relatively few design parameters. The design parameter space of the hulls is searched using a genetic algorithm to locate regions satisfying the geometric requirements. The designs found could be used as starting points of a functional design optimisation as demonstrated in an example.
