Norway strengthens its home defence capability

The Norwegian Maritime Home Guard has taken delivery of three new anti-terrorist boats, described here by Richard White, who also looks at latest developments at the builder of the boats. Terrorist attacks in New York and elsewhere have made many nations aware of their vulnerability. One response has been an upgrading of home defence forces, both land and sea based. One practical result in Norway resulting from a re-evaluation of the terrorist threat, has been the building of a number of capable small fast craft for Sjoheimevernet (Marine Home Guard). Maritime Partner in Alesund won the contract to supply three boats. The third vessel was handed over in May and they are now stationed in the Stavanger, Bergen, and Bodo regions.
