Rodriquez Cantieri Navali Spa has a long and interesting history. The Messina yard, located on the eastern tip of Sicily, was established in 1887, by Leopoldo Rodriquez, as a repair yard for local fishing boats. This yard prospered, despite an earthquake in 1908 that decimated the city, and later, the outbreak of war. In the late 1940s, after the Second World War, business activities expanded under the eye of Carlo Rodriquez, the founder's son. He decided that the future of shipbuilding was in high speed ships, so teamed up with a Swiss company, Supremarra, which had developed the hydrofoil concept.
