Dutch yards and operators maintain tugs strength

The Damen group, based in The Netherlands, continues to enjoy a leading position in the tugs and workboat market. The strength of the Damen portfolio is the group's 'production line' concept, with vessels and components in a standard range held in stock, enabling a rapid and economical delivery of vessels based on that range. The Gorinchem yard continues to deliver small, standardised design, tugs and workboats in quantity. Among the latest deliveries is Yong Gang Yin Qi Hao, a 16.89m long Stan Tug 1605 ordered by the Chinese port of Ningbo, for towing and mooring operations. Powered by two Caterpillar 3408C TA/B engines, each rated 940bhp at 1800rev/min, driving Kaplan II Promarin propellers in Van de Giessen nozzles through Reintjes WAF 164L 5.044:1 gearboxes, the tug recorded a bollard pull ahead of 14.2tonnes and a free running speed of 10.6knots. A Mampaey disc-type 15tonne towing hook is fitted. The wheelhouse and accommodation are fully air conditioned, with galley, sanitary facilities and a four-person cabin provided below decks.
