Prolific shipbuilder Austal is reportedly the most the predominant supplier of border protection control vessels for Australia; and this status was achieved in under 10 years, culminating in the company being named 2005 Australian defence exporter of the year. In recent months Austal has delivered 15 vessels to the New South Wales Water Police; eight vessels to Australian Customs, and is currently completing an order of 14 vessels to the Royal Australian Navy (RAN).
