Dometic launches new low-power chiller

Dometic Marine has launched a new variable capacity chiller for workboats and leisure craft. Monikered the Dometic VARC48, the unit has been designed to realise power savings by automatically and continuously adjusting its capacity output to match its current load demand. Ned Trigg, Dometic Marine's senior vice president of global system sales, explains: "While a boat may need a 4tonne chiller to handle extreme conditions and get things comfortable onboard at start-up, it seldom needs all that power thereafter. Yet each time a temperature adjustment is needed from an ordinary marine chiller, the entire 4tonne system comes on and runs for a period, then turns off. This causes large power swings on the generator."
