New tug guidelines from BV

Bureau Veritas (BV) has developed a new set of safety guidelines for the design, construction and operation of tugs. The classification society has worked with a number of representatives of the towing industry, including Robert Allan Ltd, Damen Shipyards, Smit Lamnalco/Smit Towage and Kotug International, to develop the guidance. This guidance is set to harmonise and rationalise safety rules for tugs in an area of marine safety where many vessels are not covered by international conventions, and where there is no agreed international rule framework.
