MCA pushes for revised safety standards

The key responsibility of the UK's Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) is to ensure the safety of everybody in a vessel in UK waters. Now, the agency is ready to publish its fourth revision of a workboat code of practice, with new standards of safety laid down. The Safety of Small Workboats and Pilot Boats - a Code of Practice, which is applicable to small workboats operating in commercial use to sea and all pilot boats, updates and harmonises the previous regulations published in 1998. Aimed at workboats sized under 24m in length, the Code is now subject to consultation before publication later this year.
