Spain's Maritime Safety and Rescue Society (Salvamento Maritimo) has taken delivery of a new pair of RIBs built by Portugal's Vanguard Marine. The twins, LS-Elara and LS-Cilene, are based on the Vanguard TX series but have been slightly customised to meet the SAR agency's requirements. They have subsequently been launched as the TXA-750 D class. One notable customisation aspect is that the RIBs feature aluminium hulls instead of the composite hulls more typical of Vanguard newbuilds. Although the duo was contracted as a stand-alone order, the builder tells Ship & Boat International: "We will deliver four more units to Salvamento Maritimo next year, of similar design and functionality but featuring GRP hulls."
