Building has commenced on the first example of Damen Shipyards Group's new Fast Crew Supplier (FCS) 7011 concept - a crew transfer vessel designed specifically to provide "business-class" levels of comfort to workers in the offshore oil and gas sector. The 73.6m loa vessel is being constructed at Damen's Antalya yard in Turkey as an on-spec design, with launch scheduled for Q3 2020. David Stibbe, director for business development and market intelligence at Damen, tells Ship & Boat International that commissioning will be completed by the end of 2020, with entry into service anticipated in 2021. Further newbuilds in this class will follow, internationally; for example, US boatbuilder Metal Shark, one of Damen's many licensees, recently announced that it has obtained permission to produce an FCS 7011 unit for its domestic market.
