And there's arguably no better city in the world than Milan in which to experience that full cross-pollination (after all, this is the place that brought us Armani kitchens, Etro paisley pillows, and Gianfranco Ferre Home). But after attending Milan Fashion Week in September, I needed to decompress, so I packed my bags for a weekend jaunt to Lake Como, Italy, the perfect base for visiting the furniture factories that dot Brianza. Plus, a new glass hotel, the first of its kind, had opened up, and I was dying to check it out. That one of my favorite furniture designers and architects had designed the place only added to my excitement.
