"The great themes of literature and of life," says novelist Isabel Allende, "are... love, honor, guilt, fear, redemption." To make them play out you need interesting characters and a compelling plot with risk and daring, tension and resolution. My drive to work the other day included all of these elements. As I traveled down the interstate once known as "America's technology highway," behind a Discovery (Land Rover) and past a handwritten sign hung from an overpass that read, "I'll Miss You, Bunny," I listened, filled with hope and trepidation, as Discovery (space shuttle) made its descent to earth.
