Development of New CVD-Coating 'Super FF Coat' and Its Application to Cutting Tools

Sumitomo Electric Hardmetal Corporation has developed a new coated carbide. Among the Company's various cutting tool products, the core product is the indexable insert with the surface of cemented carbide base material coated with the ceramic film formed by the CVD method. Recently, through the use of CVD process by the Super FF Coating technology, Sumitomo Electric Hardmetal succeeded in developing a new fine coating film that provides flat surfaces. This paper describes the development details and reports on tool performance.
