SPANISH PORTS 'MISS THE TRAIN'

During 2009 Puertos del Estado, the Spanish government administration for ports of national significance, reported a total of 412.7m tonnes of traffic. This was a 12.9% decline from the 473.8m tonnes in 2008, which had already slipped 1.9% from the historic record of 483m tonnes in 2007, before the economic storm broke across the globe.
