Univan: a transformed company and working culture

It could arguably win the title of Hong Kong's most transformed shipping company. Univan Ship Management was one of the earliest third party ship managers and ran in the same fashion it always had been by its late founder Capt Vandeperre. His passing five years ago has seen the company go through a remarkable amount of change, gone are the ledger filled offices in Wan Chai, replaced by a bright modern office in Northpoint, although the Captain's office does remain as a museum. But it is not just the surroundings that have changed but the management and the culture of the company. Univan is today run by ceo Bjorn Hojgaard, another ship's captain, who looks relaxed and happy when we meet at the helm in his office rather than on the ocean waves.
