Port of Zeebrugge orders world's first LNG bunker vessel

Port of Zeebrugge (full name Port of Bruges-Zeebrugge), which acts as major hub for LNG cargoes, has notched up a notable first by ordering the world's first seagoing LNG bunkering vessel, from Hanjin Heavy Industries in Korea. The vessel, to be operated by GDF Suez, will initially supply LNG-fuelled car carriers operated by United European Car Carriers (NYK/Wallenius), and thereafter after other LNG-powered cargo vessels operating in the North Sea and Baltic. The project is being developed under a framework agreement to develop the LNG bunkering market worldwide signed between Mitsubishi Corp, GDF Suez and NYK in May.
