"The Oshkosh JLTV fills a critical gap in the U.S. military's current tactical wheeled vehicle lineup. The design is proven to provide the ballistic protection of a light tank, the underbody protection of an MRAP [Mine Resistant Ambush Protected] -class vehicle, the network capability of a mobile command center and the off-road mobility of a Baja racer. The JLTV is the only light tactical vehicle being fielded today that can maneuver within combat formations. The JLTV allows troops to travel over rugged terrain at speeds 70% faster than [the] MRAP All-Terrain Vehicle [M-ATV]. It is fully transportable by air, including the CH-47 and CH- 53 helicopter as well as Maritime Prepositioning Force and amphibious decks. The JLTV also can accommodate over 100 different mission package configurations without sacrificing mobility or transportability. The JLTV also provides MRAP levels of protection in a package about three-fourths the size and weight of the M-ATV.
