Sarasota-Manatee Council Celebrates Marine Corps Birthday With Dinner, Speaker

The Sarasota-Manatee Council of Navy League celebrated the 244th birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps with a dinner at Bird Key Yacht Club on Nov. 20. The guest speaker was retired Marine Lt. Gen. David Beydler, a highly decorated Marine F/A-18 pilot and former commander of U.S. Central Command at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida, until his retirement in August 2018. Attendees to the dinner included Navy League members and Marines as well as youths from area schools who want to become Marines. Marine JROTC students from Venice High School in Sarasota posted the colors along with Venice Middle School Young Marines and Imagine School Young Marines from North Port, Florida.
