The APG-79 is a nose-mounted, active electronically scanned array airborne radar designed for the Navy's F/A-18E/F Super Hornet strike fighter and slated for the EA-18G Growler electronic attack aircraft. Because of its solid-state transmitter and antenna, the multimode radar's air-to-air and air-to-ground modes can be used simultaneously and scan an area at a rate approaching the speed of light. The radar offers improved situational awareness, range and image resolution.
