The Pentagon's shifting focus to the Asia-Pacific region will see the Navy reposture its forces from the 50-50 split between the Pacific and Atlantic today to a 60-40 split favoring the Pacific by 2020. 1.The Navy's presence already has been growing in the region with an increase in the size of military exercises conducted on its own and with other nations. 2.The move will represent a large logistical challenge for the Navy. 3.According to Defense Secretary Leon E. Panetta, "Our goal is to work closely with all the nations in this region to confront common challenges and promote peace, prosperity and security."
